About

Golden Lands, Working Hands

The Golden Lands, Working Hands project makes available for teachers, students, union members and other interested citizens an award-winning video series on the history of the California labor movement. This sweeping, ten-part program documents the struggles, achievements and stories of the working men and women who built the nation's most populous state. Beginning with the gold rush, the program concludes in 1999: one hundred and fifty years.

Golden Lands, Working Hands was produced by the California Federation of Teachers, with the active assistance and financial contributions of hundreds of unions. Major contributors also included the California Council for the Humanities, Kaiser Permanente, Pacific Gas and Electric Company, and United Labor Bank.

Total Running Time: Two hours and fifty minutes
